Palms, Pancakes, and Holy Week

Just a heads up. Palm Sunday is this Sunday. One of my favorite things is our palm processional. Everyone moving around and singing and waving palms in the sanctuary. Makes me happy. And plan to come a little early for breakfast. Beginning at 8:15, our youth will be cooking up some pancakes to help raise some money for youth missions this summer. And, speaking for myself, I hope bacon will also be involved.

On Palm Sunday, we wave palms to symbolize Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, as described in the Gospels. Maybe you remember the crowds welcoming Jesus by waving and spreading palm branches in his path—a gesture of adoration and celebration.

Palm Sunday begins what’s known as Holy Week, the week leading to the last supper on Thursday (a.k.a., Maundy Thursday), the crucifixion of Jesus on Good Friday, and followed by Easter Sunday. I hope you’ll be able to take part in some or all of the Holy Week opportunities.

Here’s the Holy Week schedule:

Pancake Breakfast | 8:15 – 9:45 and 11:30-1:30 p.m. in the Lower Level Dining Room. Come early before the service or stay after to enjoy pancakes cooked up by our youth (funds received go to youth missions).

Palm Sunday Worship | March 24, 10 a.m.

Maundy Thursday Service | March 28, 6:30 p.m. Join us in the sanctuary for a brief service with hand anointing and communion.

Good Friday Seven Last Words | March 29, 6:30 p.m. Join our friends at Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church for this special Good Friday service.

Easter Sunday Service | March 31, 10 a.m.. Our Easter Sunday service is always a highlight. Join us!

Much love,

Pastor Gregg
